Bears and a New Law in Japan

Recently, Japan has seen a rise in bear attacks on people. To deal with this danger, a new law was passed on September 1st that allows hunters to use guns even in areas where people live. Decisions about when to use guns will be made by local governments and only in urgent situations. If guns are used, residents must be evacuated first to protect everyone’s safety.

My Japanese Reading Progress

As a beginner Japanese learner, I found this article both challenging and exciting. Simple hiragana words and basic kanji with furigana were easier for me to read, while advanced terms like “法律” (law) or “避難” (evacuation) were harder. Even so, I noticed I could follow much more of the article than before. That feeling of progress and recognizing more words and understanding the flow made me very happy.

  1. ちょっとこわいですね。Also, I knew that Japan was strict with guns so I'm a little surprised by that new law, although hopefully it will work out for the best and people will end up safer.

  2. そうなんですよ!最近、日本ではクマが人の家の近くに来るそうです。人とクマが会った時、クマがおどろくから、あぶないそうです。
